Move those joints!
Exercise and sports have long traditions in Outokumpu, the city has invested heavily in the framework of exercise and hobbies. People also come to Outokumpu from nearby municipalities, the versatile swimming hall is one of the attractions.
The importance of clubs and associations is great, active clubs can be found in e.g. for volley, gymnastics, golf, fishing and winter sports. Companies offer opportunities, e.g. for paddling, horse riding and body care.
Sports services in the center
Outokumpu’s sports hall has facilities for playing indoor sports and a renovated gym. The swimming pool has 50-meter swimming lanes, a massage pool and a steam sauna for enjoyment and a cold pool for refreshment. The pool department has a 38-meter-long slide and children’s own pool.
The Matovaara sports center includes the Outokumpu hall, two good-quality grass fields, an athletics field, a tennis court, ski tracks, a 4 km long lighted chewing track, a mini-arena, a ball court and a beach-volley court.

Golf
The course carefully maintained by the Outokumpu Golf Club is commonly known as the Keretti course. Next to the golf course stands the handsome old, 96-meter-high Keretti mining tower. The Keretthi tower is one of Europe’s tallest mining towers and the tallest building in North Karelia. So you won’t find such a unique game landscape anywhere else!

Frisbee golf
Play frisbee golf in Outokumpu’s Old Mine area. The 18-lane course built next to an old mine and its surroundings gives a very unique gaming experience that you can’t get anywhere else.
The course is maintained by Okun Frisbeegolf ry and the length of the course is about two kilometers. You can play even if the Old Mine is closed.
Cycling
There are forest roads around the Särkiselä campsite that are well suited for mountain bikes. Cycling on marked nature trails is not recommended, they are reserved for hiking. In the summer, you can borrow bicycles from the Kaunisniemi cafe and The Old Mine.
”Kumivaara tour” is a paved and rolling route that runs from the campsite through the center of Outokumpu to Kuopio road and back through the countryside.
Valkeavaara riding stable
Valkeavaara’s stable offers experiences in the nature with animals. Fun camps are organized for children and wellness retreats for adults. Cross-country riding in beautiful forest and lake landscapes is suitable for beginners and experienced riders all year round. Camps are organized during school holidays.
Winter sports – skiing, snowshoeing and skating
The 1-4 km long ski tracks of the Matovaara sports center in the center and the cross-country trails that run from the center to the edge of the Wilderness and nature center offer sweat and great moments in beautiful scenery. The track network as a whole is approx. 40 km. The ridges and trails of the Wilderness and Nature Center area are a great place to move around on snowshoes.
Go fishing
The recreational fishing area of Musta and Valkeinen is located in the Outokumpu Wilderness and nature center about 6 km from the center. The recreational fishing area serves a group of people regardless of age and skills. There are nature trails in the area and the 12-lake kayaking route passes through it. Don’t forget we also love ice fishing here and many lakes give good catch during winter as well!
Group exercises
Outokumpu offers a variety of classes, from body care to strength training, which you can also participate in for a one-time fee. During Summer you can attend the so-called a high-altitude sessions on the viewing platform of the Old Mine. During these exercises, the views are amazing and the air conditioning works.
