Outokumpu is located on the western edge of North Karelia county and in the middle of Eastern Finland. The distance to the border of Pohjois Savo, the Ohtaansalmi bridge, is only approx. 20 km. Close to the eastern border, Ilomantsi is 125 km away.
Around 6,500 people live in Outokumpu (2022). Outokumpu’s surface area is a moderate 584.06 km². In addition to the compact city center, the city has large and small bodies of water and wilderness. The city’s most important employers are companies in the metal and plastic industry and educational institutions.
Outokumpu can be reached by car from several directions, by bus and taxi. Motorists have found nice twisting forest roads and they have also come to the city by bicycle.

By bus and train
There are several daily bus routes from Kuopio and Joensuu to Outokumpu. From the direction of Helsinki, you should take the train to Joensuu, and from there take the bus to Outokumpu.
From Oulu, Jyväskylä and Tampere you should come by train to Kuopio and continue by bus to Outokumpu.
