See, experience and get excited!
Steer to Outokumpu! The town has many things to see for those who like culture, nature and the lifestyle of a small town in Eastern Finland. Activities and events can be found all year round for those who move, enjoy themselves and shop.
Old houses – gems of architecture
The Outokumpu mining community housing was built up over a hundred years ago, so the Old Mine area and its surroundings can be called an ”old town”. In the summer, you can borrow bicycles from the Old mine, town library and the Kaunisniemi cafe, and pedal around and look at houses and buildings. At the Old Houses event, you can get to know the houses better and learn the stories told by the current residents.
Wilderness and nature center and Children’s fishing place
The wilderness and nature center is a nature destination for the whole family, where you can kayak, hike and fish. Ridge landscapes have been compared to other popular destinations like Koli and Punkaharju. The children’s fishing area is a large barrier-free base where children under the age of 12 can fish for free. Even salmon is possible to catch here!
Pitkälahti, Sysmäjärvi and Viurusuo – nature’s treasures
Nature enthusiasts are spoiled for choice by the clear-water Juojärvi, the world-famous Sysmäjärvi bird lake and the still undiscovered but protected Viurusuo swamp. Outokumpu also has longer hiking trails and well-maintained cross-country skiing tracks in winter.
